Man kommer aldri først, om man går i andres fotspor - My creative life at home

Collage on paper by Jane Monica Tvedt

Nøl ikke når du tenker på å gjøre noe godt.

Først når en mister det en har, forstår en hva det er verdt.

Gavmildhet har ikke noe med rikdom å gjøre.

“You might as well ask an artist to explain his art, or ask a poet to explain his poem. It defeats the purpose. The meaning is only clear thorough the search.”

“The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who'll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you're sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that's almost never the case.”
“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.”
“The artist is not a different kind of person, but every person is a different kind of artist.”
― Eric Gill
“To be an artist, you need to exist in a world of silence.”
“How much distance should there be between art and artist? I’d say no more than a lifetime.

“The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep. ”
